Does Black Labour Matter?
Monday 10 August 2020, 7pm-8.30pm
Does Black Labour really matter or are we just a human voting machine of the Labour Party?
You are cordially invited to the next Black Labour Movement UK’s zoom event in support of the global conversation on making Black Lives Matter.
The global Black Lives Matter fever which has caught the whole world as a result of the unfortunate murder of the Black African American George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis US white police officers has reignited the issue of racial inequality and allegation of institutional racism in our government and public institutions across the globe, most especially in Britain and other major western countries.
The Black Lives Matter movement has emboldened all communities Black, white and other communities to unite in challenging current hostile environment and racial inequality policies that have unfairly and disproportionately discriminated against Black and other Minority Ethnic communities both in the UK and across the world.
The contention is that our political institutions, trade unions, public, private and voluntary sector organisations are not also exempt from similar criticism and allegations of institutional racism as well.
According to anecdotal evidence, 7 out of 10 Black electorates vote for the Labour Party at all elections even if not as a registered party member.
However, it is perceived that both the internal policies and structures of the Labour Party do not reflect nor reward the decades old loyalty of Black voters and members.
The question now being asked is whether the Labour Party really deserves the continuing loyalty of Black voters without any significant positive change in neither attitude nor reward for the Black people’s support as compared with other communities.
Is it time for Black voters to start demanding a parity of esteem from the Labour Party for our continuing support and loyalty to the party?
Have you got something to say?
Come join in conversation with Cllr Sunny Lambe and our panellists.......
